Starting a business is an exciting time. You get to pick out a name, build a website, maybe pick out a storefront. And, don’t forget about your logo! It may seem like a minor detail in the grand scheme of things and, yet, it can sometimes be the most overwhelming part of creating a new business.

There are many factors that go into creating a logo for your brand, with many variables to consider. Here a few to think about:

1. Color. This might be the most important part of your new logo. What color or colors speak to you and your brand. Do you want a one-color logo or multiple colors? Should they be warm or cool colors? If all of these questions have you stumped, try looking up brand logos that you aren’t familiar with (so it doesn’t cloud your opinion) to see what you like. Typing in something like restaurants in Louisville (or somewhere else you have never been) is a good start.

2. Font. The font style you choose can define your brand's personality. Depending on which font you choose, your business can come across as fun or give off a more professional vibe.

3. Case. Once you settle on the font style, think about if you want all uppercase, lowercase, or a mixture of both. Again, this should reflect the personality of your brand.

4. Icon. Most logos have some sort of image to go with their brand name. This icon or symbol is an important aspect of your brand that can be used on social media, t-shirts, business cards, etc.

5. Variation. Once you’ve settled on everything, you may want a few variations of your logo. The most common are vertical, horizontal, icon only, text only. This allows you to use your logo in various forms while maintaining your brand standards.
